How To Access Kolkata


Access
AIR : Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, more common as the Dum Dum Airport is 20 km NE of the city. International carriers connect Calcutta with Rome, London, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Dubai, New York, Osaka, Moscow, Kathmandu and Dhaka. Domestic airlines have regular flights to almost all important Indian cities. There is a 24-hour coach service to/from the Indian Airlines city office and major hotels. Pre-paid taxi booths also are a good option to travel to your hotel.
There is a Circular Railway that operates between Dum Dum airport in the north junction to Princep Ghat near Strand Road. During peak hours trains run every 15 minutes and hourly thereafter.
India's first underground railway, the Metro, connects between southern and northern part of the city between Tollygunge and Dum Dum Airport.

RAIL :Kolkata has two major Railway Stations, Howrah and Sealdah. A major stoppage of Eastern Railways, the Howrah Junction, just south of Howrah Bridge, connects the city with most other parts of the country. While the Sealdah Station serves the intra-state traffic farther east and to the northern areas of West Bengal.
Some important connections are: Poorva (from New Delhi) Express via Patna /Gaya-Varanasi; Delhi-Kalka Mail; Howrah-Amritsar Mail; Mumbai Mail via Allahabad; Rajdhani Express from Delhi via Gaya /Patna. The trains of South Eastern Railways passing Kolkata are: Coromandel (Chennai) Express via Cuttack; Madras Mail, Mumbai Mail via Nagpur; Puri Express via Cuttack . The trains from Sealdah are: Kanchenjunga (New Jalpaiguri) Express, Teesta-Torsa Express; Darjeeling Mail; Jammu Tawi Express.

ROAD :The State Transport Bus Stand is in Esplanade has CSTC (Kolkata State Transport Corporation), NBSTC (North Bengal State Transport Corporation) and SBSTC (South Bengal State Transport Corporation) buses connecting Kolkata to various destinations in West Bengal and other states. There is also a bus to Phuntshiling (Bhutan) via Siliguri. NBSTC connects Kolkata with Alipurduar, Babughat, Berhampur, Jalpaiguri, Jorai, Krishnanagar, Siliguri, Suri and Coochbehar and so on.

SEA :Kolkata is connected to Port Blair by a streamer service run by the Shipping Corporation of India.
