Nature humbles humanity with her plush expanse and
the latter bewilders nature with their tob-thumb trains, motorable roads,
quaint villages, tea & coffee plantations flaking the hill
stations..

AIR : The nearest airport at Coimbatore is about 3 hours
(100 km) by road. Coimbatore is veritably connected to Chennai, Mumbai,
Bangalore and many major cities in India. The Mysore airport, towards the
north of Ooty, is about 5 hours drive away.
RAIL : The nearest railhead is at Mettupalayam, a small town at the
Nilgiri foothills, which is directly connected to Coimbatore and Chennai.
The Nilgiri Express leaves from Chennai at night, and reaches Mettupalayam
early the next morning. Take the Nilgiri Mountain Rail, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, from Mettupalayam to Ooty for an experience that is best
called a rapturous journey.
ROAD :The Coimbatore-Mettupalayam-Coonoor-Ooty road (i.e. the Tamil
Nadu route) is the best bet. The road from Mysore (at 170 km) is undoubtedly
the most scenic with a long stretch that runs through the Mudumalai Wildlife
Sanctuary. There are majestic stands of Eucalyptus amidst well tended tea
estates as you near Gudalur, and then you drive past the Pykara Dam and
waterfalls. All roads to the Nilgiri hills are toll roads, although the
tolls are quite nominal. There are buses and shared taxi vans that can be
boarded from most parts of India to Ooty. From Coimbatore, it is a 4 hour
journey by road.
