Access
Fly to Guwahati in Assam and take a bus from there to Tezpur (about 5 hours). Shared Sumo jeeps and buses leave Tezpur (last service midday) for Bomdila where you will have to stay overnight and catch an early morning bus or Sumo taxi to Dhirang (45 km). From here transport facilities abound to reach Tawang 143 km away.

AIR : The nearest airport to Tawang is at Tezpur, Assam. There are daily flights of Indian Airlines, and many private carriers from the major cities to Guwahati. There is also a weekly 80-min Tezpur-Tawang helicopter service by Pawan Hans (Rs. 3000).

RAIL : The nearest railhead to Tawang is at Rangapara, Assam. It is served by Arunachal Express from Guwahati.

ROAD :The nearest bus station is at Bomdila. It is well connected with other towns by buses. From Guwahati /Tezpur one has to proceed to Tawang by road which takes about 10 hours from Bhalukpong and 13 hours from Tezpur. So, it is necessary to halt on the way in Bhalukpong/Bomdila/Dirang in West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh. Share taxi from Tezpur will cost some Rs 350 approx per head, but a stoppage at Bomdila is advised. Next day, one can reach Tawang via beautiful sela pass located at a height of 14,000 ft.

Permits:
Indian tourists visiting Arunachal Pradesh require an Inner Line Permit, which takes approximately three weeks to be issued. Foreign tourists need clearance from the Home Ministry and a Restricted Area Permit, which also takes some three weeks to be issued. The Permit is valid for 10 days. A minimum of four and a maximum of fourteen tourists must travel together on a tour arranged through an approved travel agent. Our agents can arrange the Permits for you.

Stay At
Arunachal is not one of your tourist hot circuits with abundant resorts and hotels. Accommodation facilities like Government rest house, tourist lodge and hotels are available in the way in Bhalukpong, Bomdila and Dirang. Bomdila has a good Tourist Lodge and several medium-range hotels. Dhirang's Tourist Lodge is adjacent to a new moderately-priced hotel; there are cheaper hotels in the town below.
