Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur
| Category
: 5* Deluxe Hotel (Taj Group) |
Why stay at Umaid Bhawan Palace..
Location :
Set amidst 26 acres of rocky outcrop in the southeastern part of the city,
is the golden-yellow sandstone monument once owned by Maharajah Umaid Singh.
It is located at 5 km from the airport, 6 km from the railway station, 3 km
from the city center and 3 km from the bus stand.
Grandest of Heritage Properties :
Renowned Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, has drawn from Renaissance
and Rajputana elements while designing the palace, while the lavish
interiors emulate the geometric designs popular in the 1920s and 1930s (art
deco style). The abundant display of murals are from the the self-exiled
Polish artist Stefan Norblin. Add to it the toil of some 3000 artisans over
14 years and one million square feet of the finest marble, that finally gave
the world one of her grandest private residences - the Umaid Bhawan Palace.
Sound close to your fairytale castles?
Fêtes :
Umaid Bhawan ranks well amongst Tatler Travel Guide's "101 Best Hotels
in the World" (2007), Conde Nast Traveler's "Hot List Hotels"
(2006), Australian Gourmet Traveller's "Best of the Best list of 20
hotels from around the world" (2006).
Luxurious Rooms & Suites :
The most gorgeous rooms are where the King and the Queen once stayed - the
Maharaja and the Maharani Suite respectively. The former is royally
masculine with sofas in faux leopard skin, murals of leopards from Africa,
tigers and horses, and even of the famed Jodhpur sport, pig-sticking by
Norblin, and a secret bar. The Maharani Suite is warm hued with pink, black,
chrome, mirror and a Norblin mural of the Goddess Kali etched on shining
black glass.
Elegant Dining & Wining: Wine and dine at Risala, grandiose with its
portraits of Jodhpur Lancers and experts chefs serving the best of
Continental and Indian palates, and fine wines. The Trophy Bar has more for
the vision - hunting trophies, memorabilia - very Rajputana! The dining
hall, Pillars, with spectacular views of the garden and Mehrangarh Fort, is
a must-see attraction in itself. Needless to mention, the food is upto the
standards of the grand ambiance it posits.
Banquets :
There are 4 meeting rooms and 6 outdoor venues, and the conference capacity
is from 300 to 3000 guests.
Events & Recreation :
You also have an option to dine at the Palaces Fountain courtyard, or how
about a flaming torch dinner right there at the Mehrangar Fort? The Taj
Spa's are internationally acclaimed. Movie buffs can check out what is
screening at the Ali Akbar theater, which also can be used for
lecture-demonstrations and conferences.

Umaid Bhawan
was out of the world! It is a tourist attraction first, and then a
hotel. Our Jodhpur trip would have missed out something very
important, had we not stayed at Umaid Bhawan. And it is very well
located in that small hill which in itself is a vantage point to enjoy
the view of Jodhpur's main attraction the Mehrangarh Fort. Just too
amazing for photoshoots. You can see I am too impressed for words.
