Welcome to Mowgli's jungle! British author and Nobel Laureate Rudyard Kipling's "Jungle Book" about the boy brought up the wolves, was set in the jungles of Kanha....

The Kanha National Park of Madhya Pradesh - the Tiger state of India - is one of the most famous tiger reserves of the nation. The landscape of the region is made interesting due to its horseshoe shaped valley and the surrounding spurrings of the Mekal. The Surpan river meanders through Kanha's lush grasslands that cover the extensive plateau. The project tiger began here in 1974 and nowhere can you see this ferocious beast as often, and as regularly as in Kanha National Park. Over the years, it has carved a niche for being one of the well-maintained National Parks in Asia.

Attractions
Widlife Attractions: Spotting wild animals is always a matter of luck but Kanha is so rich in wildlife that the odds are titled in your favor. The reserve includes about 300 bird species and about 22 mammal species. While searching for the king of the jungle - tiger, you can have a quick look at gray langurs, nilgai, porcupines, hyena, chousingha, mongoose, leopard, wild pig, jungle cat, chital or spotted deer and gaur or Indian bison. It is the only habitat of the otherwise extinct swamp deer or the barasingha. It is among the extinct species and due to the efforts of the authorities a considerable increase in its population has been recorded.

For an expedition to Kanha, there are Jeep services by the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC). You can book for a jeep safari in advance. Opt for the so-called Tiger Show which begins every morning. This involves tracking the tiger on elephant back with mahouts communicating through the walky-talky about the predator’s movements.
